  • Edited with apologies: according to the Practical Handbook of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (1989 edition) there are over 300 known amino acids. The majority of these are either quite rare or are simply manufactured in labs. Some are not even usually found on earth, but have only been found in carbonaceous chondritic meteors, such as ones mentioned in this article: http://www.asu.edu/news/research/ordersfromspace_022004.htm In general, however, it is hard to find anything written about any of the amino acids other than the 20-21 used in organisms, and nearly impossible to find names and details anywhere outside the abovementioned book or the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.
  • i read there were 20 amino acids found in organic oraganisms, but only 12 of them are found in Humans and they're refered to as the 'Essential Amino Acids'.
  • actually sir ,i am still confused ,in genral 20-21 amino acids are known but i heard their are 2-3 more added to generally used amino acids list, actuall its my asignment. heartly thanks to lynnenorth,Anonymous,Sunfire, and those who will aanswer their after.
