In the third episode of the newer version, Yoda informs Obi Wan that Ben's old masters spirit, (I forgot his name but he was played by Liam Neeson), was on Tatooine. Yoda then taught Ben how to communicate with this spirit and thus Ben learned and continued his Jedi education this way, he mastered the more intimate nature of the light side of the force, and mastered greater power that mere mortals could never comprehend. At least this is the gist of the story I got. Basicly I believe Ben became part of the light side of the force itself.
