Not good.
-
for food? fine. for a trophy? give the deer a gun.
-
I don't really feel good about any kind of hunting... how am I to deprive any creature of life? Hell, I've even recently felt guilty about killing these damned bugs that are everywhere...
-
It's fine. I support gun control but that is handguns in urban areas. All the more power to someone if they can find a free and abundant source of meat to provide for their family. Deer populations run rampant in many areas and hunters are actually doing a service to the environment. Remember there are no more natural predators to pare their numbers down. Venison is better for you than any fatty mammal meat you can find on the market. No pun, if you got the guts to do it, go for it. I really applaud bow hunters. My Second cousin Carl used to go bow hunting and he thoroughly loved it.

Cruel activity that takes us back to less civilized times. All hunting, with the exception of hunting by people who do it because that's the way they have been feeding themselves for Centuries, should be banned from this Planet.
-
I'm very much against it. I don't think deer should be allowed to hunt. Actually I agree with midnighttoker...if you're hunting for food all's well & good but for trophies is another matter.
-
No problem as long as the hunter is planning on eating it. not just take the head to put on the wall. The predators have been taken down in numbers insufficient to control the population. Eat what you kill and hunting is fine.

Now watch as I try to deal logically with things that suck... I hate the idea of killing or harming ANYTHING for sport. Yet, I have lived in places where deer hunting was seriously prohibited, to some extent, and I have seen the dead deer on the side of the road who were desperately searching for food on the highway. If we are taking over land to the point that we take away their food, which is worse? Starving or being shot? I don't know, but they used to shoot horses to put them out of misery... Truth? I just don't know
-
I wouldn't want to shoot bambi. I don't eat animals & like being vegan. We all approach life differently, so you have to decide for yourself. I've been animal-free for 12 years and feel good about the decision.
-
I don't hunt myself but I'm totally for it. Contrary to popular myths hunting simply isn't wanton killing but is actually a natural control. Just look at the areas that have banned deer-hunting and in virtually all cases the deer population is out of control; I suppose some would rather see a deer starve to death or be hit by a train or automobile than have them shot. It's not that anyone really cares about deers; just how they die.
-
I think it's necessary to control the deer population. I wonder how the deer feel about urban sprawl.
-
I have a dislike for the hunting of any animal. There is no sport in it,and is some macho bull. The animals have no way to protect themselves against a man with a gun.I guess that is where the evolution a man is at this moment in time.
-
What is more inhumane? Hunting or leading cows into a slaughterhouse because they trust the human they are following. . I respect the Vegans who are posting but for the rest of you meat eaters that oppose hunting, your food doesn't magically show up at the market. Hunting is part of an overall Conservation effort. In fact, a lot of money from the sale of hunting items supports Coservation - http://federalasst.fws.gov/wr/fawr.html PLEASE, learn about why people are involved in it rather than believe the emotional hype. Not all of us are toothless rednecks with guns.

Deer hunting has been part of our family traditions because we live on a farm . It is important to control the herds because they would devastate our crops. we eat what we kill and donate to low income families. we only take one at a time .We feed the deer with our crops and the deer inturn feed us. the deer are part of the beauty of our land that we want to protect. I dont shoot trophies nor do I care to. I dont let anyone one our land that does. My freind and Brother Turtle (Native american ) Hunts with me sometimes . he got me into the habit of thanking the deer for giving its life for me. it is a good habit and keeps the proper respect.
-
Not really my thing, but it's better than raising animals strictly for the purpose of slaughtering them.
-
I couldn't do it myself, heck I've got a family of does and bambis living behind my house, but I do realize the deer population can be huge if not 'controlled.' I am not a supporter of hunting in general, so I'm on the fence on this one. My heart says no way, but my head knows its necessary.

For food: I believe that hunting is a part of humanity. It lets someone know where they should be in the cycle of nature. If you're going to eat meat you should put out some effort for it. Trophy hunting: No thanks.

Many people complain about deer ruining their garden. I think they can be harmful to the environment but they are beautiful animals. Some people enjoy deer meat I am unable to eat it myself.
-
For food? It's fine with me. In California we hunted on our own land and the meat we got off the land was just about all the meat we ate. Deer and turkeys (we had 100s of turkeys around our house.) It's hormone free and hasn't been swimming in the bacterial soup from thousands of other carcasses. I was really good at trimming and using just about every part of the animals. What we didn't eat, went to our dogs and cats. It helped us live on a very small budget and was much healthier than anything we could buy. Venison and homegrown veggies and fruits, you've got it made:-) However if you are looking for that big buck and you spend $2,000 for your cute outfit and who knows what for your gun and guide and have something to put up on your wall, bragging rights, even if you eat it, I think it's kind of a waste. You're just eating it to keep from feeling guilty that all you really wanted was that trophy. Not all trophy hunters bypass the meat, sorry.

i'm fine, wolves can do whatever they want with them...just try not to let it be the other way around... picture © Blotch (BlackTeagan and Kenket)

I'd rather go millionaire hunting... with a sniper rifle. :)
-
I fell that it is great to hunt deer because the wolves are endangered and humans can help the wolf population if humans hunt for trophy or for food I don't hunt deer but i do hunt.
-
You say it's ok to hunt for food, but not for a trophy. I think you need to understand what you are talking about. I am a hunter and every one that I know, including myself, kills a deer then processes the meat to put food on the table. What part of the deers upper neck, head and antlers do you think is eatable?? Im most cultures that part is not eaten. Most people who hunt DO hunt to put food on the table. The "trophy" is an added bonus. Understand what you are talking about before you decide to sound educated on a certain topic!!
-
food purposes only

Love it

i love the idea, my family has hunted for years, but most of the hunters drink while they hunt and it just doesnt feel safe to me, ive been witness to many near accidents cause of mishandling of the rifles. but i do have a nice eight pointer behind the tv. horns have nineteen inch spread. my grandaddy shot it in emporia virginia
