You shouldn't as long as the active ingredients are the same they are basically the same thing. The only exception are people with allergies to certain non-drug ingredients. They should read all the ingredients very carefully.

It's all about marketing. They took Guaifenesin and gave it a cool name. It's almost as if the name "Mucinex" gives it magical powers. Pair that with a cute commercial and "viola!" So to answer the question, you should not have to pay extra for their advertising. Get the generic stuff. The most you may sacrifice is the time-release feature of the Mucinex.
