Should reality TV shows such as Survivor or Big Brother tell a contestant if a close friend or relative dies?

That's not the show's job, that's the families job.

If they can't get messages from their family the TV show should tell them important things like that.

yes definitly. big brother is on for 3 months so they could end up missing their funeral and everything. if it did happen then i think they should definitly be told

Since they are cut off from family and friends till the very end I think they should be told. Then the decision would be up to the contestant if they want to pull out of the contest and leave.
