Just like the modeling industry they portray ideal body types. I don't think they're sexist though. Women are treated respectfully and with dignity. Commercials deal in absolutism and will exhibit unreasonable images that the typical woman cannot match but in no way have I noticed women's rights being compromised though.

A lot of television commercials a sexist, the older ones especially. The recent one I can think of is the Nuts TV Advert

Yes, I think so. I don't think things have changed radically since the days when mum was the "authority" of all things to do with the home.

I believe so. Every time i see a cleaning commercial and there is only a woman all excited and about to orgasm because she has a new soap, or broom or something of the sort really annoys me. Or any other stereotypes that are no longer needed. I understand that marketing tries to reach the people that consume a particular product the most, but it is still done in a way that could leave other people left out.
