  • You can run something like a credit report on the car you want to buy. It's called a "Carfax report". The dealer has a copy (he wouldn't buy a used car without running that report), if says he doesn't have a copy, he can get you one. If he won't, go somewhere else, and know you can also order one yourself on carfax.com. All you need is the VIN number. It's possible that someone could have an accident and have fixed the damage secretly. Especially when buying a used car you could certainly insist to have a mechanic you trust inspect the car for you before finalizing your purchase.
