Have you checked the points? They should be under the rotor inside the distributor. They could be burned/pitted and/or misaligned which could cause this problem. It's also possible you're not getting any power to the dist. The disributor can't do it's job without power.

Ah the good old days, start at your plugs and work your way back, you will need some help to turn it over while you look for spark, also a nail or something to get the spark out where you can see it, also something well insulated to hold onto the wire with, that is very high voltage, wont do any damage but it will hurt if you get bit. Keep working back from plugs to dist. to coil it is probably in the dist. it almost always was, have fun.
