Help answer this question below.

I have a fantailed goldfish & a fish/minnow, son bought it from pet store. it seems that the little fish is biting the fantail everywhere from its gills to it's bum. why is that? ive only seen it happen @ feeding time. can diff. fish mate w/ eachother?

    The sales people at the pet store should have told you not to mix goldfish with other fish in the first place. Goldfish are cold water fish and most of the rest of the fish you'll find at a pet store are tropical or warm water fish. Sounds to me like you have a tetra or some other kind of 'fin nipper' fish. I would separate them and treat the goldfish with Melafix (found at your local pet store or Wal Mart) for the torn tail.

    No, they are not mating. If it is at feeding time, then it is probably a dominance thing. You might have to separate them at mealtimes....they boys are misbehaving.
