I think it's because rent is so expensive in most places, so if you don't get in and buy something early on, you'll end up paying thousands and rent. Also, the fact that property prices have just gone up and up over the last ten or twenty years means people are worried they'll never be able to afford somewhere decent if they don't get on buying somewhere as a starter home.

Rents are so astronomically high here that if you rent for any length of time you would have paid enough money to buy , and still own nothing! Thanks Blair
