Most doctor's offices get a combination subscription when they open for business. They get five or six magazines for one price. When the subscription runs out they just keep the old magazines on hand. This in not set in stone but I worked in a salon and that's why we had old magazines hanging around.

I think there's a medical waiting room magazine supply house that sells medical professionals FDA-approved old magazines for about 20 times the cover price-a cost which is passed on to you, the patient.

Magazines offer special rates to businesses that have a client waiting room. The doctors have the magazines sent to their home and charge them as a business expense for taxes and when they are done with them bring them into the office. I know this because I used to own a business and received these same offers.

I think mine all got them from the Library of Alexandria, Egypt, before it was destroyed.
