The Babylonian guy who figured out beer. Current theory is that he was thirsty and drank water at the bottom of a grain bin. The grain and the mold had fermented and it was probably really gross. And then he figured out how to duplicate that. And it's tasty.

Well, they say that it may have been some goatherders watching there goats eating from a bush in Ethiopia and they noticed their goats all jumping around acting hyper and crazy and so they thought it was from eating the coffee bush. That is the romantic story of how coffee was discovered by humans. I think the refining of metals and the start of the metal ages to be amazing. How did people think of melting and extracting 'rock' and 'stone' to get other metals and then mix them together to get interesting useful items?
