In my neck of the woods (Long Island, New York), most people go bowling, or head out to a Starbucks to chat for a while. Meeting up at a bookstore is a nice thing to do if you want to get to know somebody as well. Typically, the best thing to do is just to go to a neutral area where you can sit and talk and get to know each other. Don't be fooled by those staged, exaggerated 'Blind Date' tv shows that you see on TV, where people are skinny dipping together and having sex within an hour of meeting each other...just try to find a local hang out that you feel comfortable meeting at. Mini-Golf can be fun too. Obviously, going to the movies on a first date is a bad idea...since you're basically just sitting next to a person for two hours in the darkness, not saying anything. Fancy or expensive dinners aren't a good idea either, keep it simple and slow.

From a girl's point of view, just be yourself. Find out her likes, but include some of your own. Don't make either one of you uncomfortable on that first date or it will just go down hill. Bowling, skating, a fair, anything like that is always good. Don't go somewhere where the girl feels like she is put "out" there. Talk is always good on the first date, but doing something fun that shows your personality is a good way to see if you're compatible. Just always ask questions and be sure to listen to those answers. A girl will give you all the ammo you need to steal her heart and keep her if you just ask the right questions. Good Luck!

If you guys like nature, there are lots of forest preserves and nature trails in the suburbs. Bring binoculars and enjoy bird watching or frogs and fish in the marshes.
