"You can take the engine cover off anytime that you want. It's basically for cosmetic purposes and you may have heard it referred to as a beauty cover . It is probably a good idea to take it off every once in a while so you can get out any dirt or debris that may be underneath there that could start a fire. It's rare but, it can happen. It is put there for looks, and to protect the engine. Not to mention you, as the owner, from getting burned or getting a hand caught in any moving mechanisms. It's safe, don't worry about it."
