  • If the insurance industry banks on it then I guess that's good enough for me. It surely doesn't seem like it. lol
  • Some young men can be more stupid than women on the road, hence the higher insurance.
  • I think it depends on the age of the driver. They claim that young women are better drivers than young men but I think my son is a better driver than my daughter. After age 30, I really don't think there is much of a difference.
  • Statistically speaking, males (especially below the age of 25) have more accidents for higher damage cost than females. In that sense, yes, I agree. However, that is general for the entire population, and cannot be used to determine an individual's driving performance. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/womens/chap27.pdf http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/shared/readmore.asp?sNav=nr&id=543 http://ink.news.com.au/mercury/mathguys/articles/1995/950912a1.htm
  • Yes, becasue men are more prone to showing off and proving they are manly by there reckless behavior, especially when younger. Men can't multi-task as well as women so they can't do 3 things at once while driving. And men put in more hours behind the wheel, too. They also have jobs very often that require driving. All that means more accidents. More accidents leads people to believe that they must be worse drivers.
  • Women have smaller accidents than men. Men are much more likely to have big, fatal or injury causing, smashes, whil women tend to have fender-benders that can be repaired in the body shop. Some studies show that women have more of them (and some don't), but the total cost of accidents (which is what insurance companies worry about) is lower for women than for men.
  • I don't think driving ability has much to do with sex..other than young male drivers maybe being a little more dangerous because they have an excess of testosterone.
  • YOUNG men are the most dangerous drivers on the roads. I know because I used to be one. Once they mature they tend to be slightly better drivers than women of a similar age because they have more confidence (in my opinion).
  • I think most men have better driving skills. At least that is how it is around my town...
  • Undeniably
  • Statistically women have far fewer accidents. that may be due to the fact they drive too carefully which causes men to become frustrated and careless.
  • Yes, that's why their insurance rates are lower. Wait, it's the other way around, isn't it?
  • Better than whom? I would say that about 3 billion men (less a few hundred professional race drivers) are not as good a driver as Danica Patrick. . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danica_Patrick Even if men *on average* are better drivers than women *on average*, the individual variation within each group overwhelms the average group difference.
  • It is true men have more accidents, but it is also true men drive more than woman. A recent survey carried out by The Telegraph in the UK shows that woman crash about 3 times as often as men do when you take a crashes per journey percentage.
  • I think most men cant avoid hitting a curb when driving, so I will say men.
  • We are both bad in our own special ways. Men are likely to rear end the guy in front of him who thinks, wrongly buddy!, that he is going to "beat" the driver to the red light. Women are more likely to be in distraction type accidents...involving tippy cup wars and "he's looking at me" fight refereeing.
  • both can drive horribly...
  • Men on the open road as they are not as careful as women. Women certainly in a parking lot.
  • teenage boys and girls
  • I'd say 50/50.
  • Male drivers have a 77 percent higher risk of dying in a car accident than women (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16698153/). You decide!
  • I am always terrified when a woman is driving me. When guys are driving terribly, and they do, it feels like an adventure; trying to make good time, trying to spite that jackass who accidentally cut us off, trying to catch up to that hot girl who may go out with us if we show her that we can catch up to her.
  • it depends on the person really, both could be awful drivers. I find that people can not multi task when it comes to driving and I believe it!! Did you know that txt messaging while you drive takes 92% of your attention away from driving!!! No wonder i can't txt while i drive.
  • Probably men, they don't try to multi-task. Although women tend to drive more conservatively whether or not they're aware of the rest of the world going on around them.
  • Driving ability is not an attribute of sex.
  • I've seen nightmare drivers between both, i think it's a matter of experience. Men might be better drivers because they are more into driving than women/-
  • If you base the answer on insurance claim figures/ accidents. Then women are worse in parking lots and close quarters but overall are safer.
  • Im a woman; and I still say MEN.
  • Well, maybe we should go to the statistics and find out. I don't think it's a gender thing, unless you are having sex while your driving, then I would say men are the better drivers at that time.
  • of course women make better drivers. They stay in the kitchen all day makin' me my 100 samminches.
  • the older women are bad drivers. they drive like men.
  • STOP! Before you kill someone.
  • I think women tend to have more minor accidents. However, men drive more aggressively, so when they have accidents the results tend to be more serious.
  • statistically i think women are better.. just because car insurance always seems to be cheaper for women... i dont think we have as many "girl racers" as "boy racers" anyway :P
  • In general, no. Women have been proven statistically to be better drivers. The reason? Women have much keener "eye to hand" coordination than men.
  • Well I consider myself a very good driver.....
  • There is no answer to this question unless all women are worse drivers than all men -- or vice versa. Neither statement would be true. The best you can do if you're looking to compare driving habits is to observe the driving habits of a particular man and a particular one and evaluate. This may tell you which of their cars you want to ride in while they're driving. It will tell you nothing about any other male or female driver.
  • After driving 2-3 million miles in a police car, i would say no. Even my wife admits that women drive more reckless than men. We both travel a lot on the interstate and have observed women drivers take too many reckless driving chances, even with their children in their vehicle. At first, my wife took offense at my statement concerning women drivers. then, she began to see it for herself on the interstate system. This opinion comes not only from yours truly, but my wife of 43 years.
  • Once upon a time, yes, but not anymore. Sometimes I wonder whether women feel any responsibility to the children in their car anymore. They seem to be the worst offenders for talking on the cellphone while driving and will take crazy chances while distracted by that infernal contraption. I've also never seen a man driving while putting on makeup, although I have seen a few men READING WHILE DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!
  • yes they drive well than men.5
  • There is no way that is true anymore. I seen them speeding 10 over the speed limit weaving through traffic while on their cell phones. Actually I think I see more girls on the cell phone than guys. And studies show that a person on the cell phone is a worse driver than many drunks. Thats why it is becoming illegal to talk and drive in many states.
  • No. I think women drive more irresponsibly. Sorry,..this is not "sexist". It is just my observation. I see women talking on cell phones all the time while driving. Hardly ever do you see men talking on the phone while driving. Women will drive in the opposite lane from where they are going to turn until the last minute, then move suddenly to the lane they need to make their turn from. Not cool, gals. And you would think women driving with children would be extra careful. But, they are not. I have even seen young mothers driving with a baby in one arm, rather than having the kid in a belted basket. And women still forget turn signals. Signal your turn well ahead, please, gals. And please, please, when driving on rainy or icy streets, drive at a slow and careful speed. The speed limit is only for normal driving conditions...not for ice or snow, or rain. You drive according to conditions. You cannot stop or break the same when the streets are slick. And please look behind you when pulling out of a parking space. You can't just worry about the cars in front of you...
  • Not unless we start masturbating while driving.
  • YESSSS!!!!!!!!.... And im a woman. lol I have just always felt safer when a man is driving...
  • Men are better than women in driving a vehicle.
  • First, most generalizations tend to distort the truth. Second, don't piss off your woman. Who is a better driver is not as important as who is more diplomatic and can keep the peace.
  • i think both sexes have thier fair share of idiots but i do tend to see more females phoning/texting and swerving on occasion than males, just an observation(bring on the dr)
  • Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
  • yes i think we have more practice.
  • Woman are safer but men can drive faster and can maneuver better.
  • Not for me...
  • The insurance companies, who pay the bills for accidents, don't reckon so. They say that women have more accidents than men, but smaller. So, to exaggerate, a woman will have two fender-benders where a man will have a head-on and kill someone. Who is the better driver? I know I would prefer several fender-benders to on major accident, even if no-one was seriously hurt.
  • Of course...
  • no just better on the wear and tear of vehicles
  • A while back, my curiosity got the better of me and I made detailed notes on the number of times I had been 'supremely inconvenienced' or nearly killed by inattentive or dangerous drivers. During the course of that particular week there were precisely ten instances of 'mobile ineptitude'. Out of those 10 times that someone: A) Ran me into another lane to keep from getting hit, B) Ran me off the road completely, or C) Pulled into 55+mph traffic going only 20mph, eight of those individuals were talking on their cell phones at the time the offense occurred. That's 8 out of 10 times people! And, what's worse, ALL eight of those particular offenders were FEMALE. That's not sexism, it's just a recounting of the facts as they occurred. I know for a fact that there are guys who are equally as guilty of being stupid behind the wheel, but that's the way the events of that week unfolded, and as I said before, I only kept track out of pure curiosity.
  • It depends on how you define a good driver. If you mean someone who drives on the public roads safely, then the answer is 'no'. Insurance companies tend to favour female drivers, and they do so on one basis only.
  • Women of coarse..:)
  • women. insurance companies know this. http://editorial.autos.msn.com/article.aspx?cp-documentid=788126
  • Women because we don't get drunk and drive or do crazy things as much as men. That's probably why insurance companies charge a lot less $ for women's insurance.
  • I think both sexes equally suck at driving
  • Yes, in general I would say they are better drivers. As a simple example of one aspect, see if you can predict whether a driver is male or female by watching them parallel park. The down side for males is that they do tend to drive more aggressively, which more than negates the added safety from being a better driver. In the past two weeks, if I had not been a defensive driver, I would have been hit by: One female running a stop sign, one male running a stop sign, two females making a left turn from the right lane of a one way, one female making a U turn, and going the wrong way on a one way, and one female making a right turn in front of me from the left lane of a one way. Cell phones were involved about 50% of the time.
