Just let him try to do his thing and then (this is the nasty part, think of it as a necessary job) just grab his "thing" and aim him at her, he should thrust himself. If he wont thrust this wont work, and I don't know how to make him thrust. If your having a problem with her being too tall try putting her front paws up on some steps, the first or second stair, it will lower her back end or you could dig a little hole and put her back feet in there to lower her.

You can't make them mount each other. They will do it all on their own, when they are ready. When the mounting occurs they will tie{Lock}. Whatever you do, please do not attemt to pull them apart, because you can unitentionally do major damage to both dogs. They will stay tied for a few minutes, the time varies, and they will release when they are ready, on their own. You may want to consider getting both of the dogs fixed. Unless you know exactly what is involved with breeding, you shouldn't breed your dogs. Too many things can go wrong.

I would let the male dog try to mount the female dog, and give him time. If i notice that he is not doing it right, or cant do it. When i saw that the male dog was not able to mount the female that is when i helped. I made the female dog rest on her stomach and then had her rear end sticking up, i then picked up the male dog and grabbed his penis and directed it into or towards her butt hole. Then they were in a tie (lock), and i let the male dog inject his sperm (semen) into the female. So yes I helped my male dog mount my female dog, and all i had to do was grab his penis and direct it toward her butt hole.

In my breed, (papillons) it's very common to help assist in the breeding. Often times a virgin male will not have a good idea on "where to put it." He'll mount her side, head, whatever... At a young age, it's smart to get them used to being handled. That way, when he's "needed" he will not mind when you help out. If you have a large breed, you'll probably need at least two, maybe three people to assist the breeding. One person needs to hold the female still, while the other person directs the male. If you have a shy male, it's best to breed him to a bitch that is welcoming and not aggressive. Flirting really helps the both of them to warm up. I had one male that FINALLY achieved a natural tie at 4 years old. Before that I had to collect from him and artificial inseminate the bitch. Sometimes if your male just needs to "get the idea" a bit more, you can apply pressure at the base of the sheath (assuming he isn't already erect and visible.) This usually will cause an erection and make them a little more determined to "get the girl." Use a specific word to encourage him and use it only when he needs to be bred. In my case, with my males I use "get the girl!" He'll know what it means the next time he needs to be used. Use lots of praise and egg them on... the boys like that. LOL Good luck!! Breeding two virgins is an absolute HEADACHE and with my dogs I usually end up inseminating.

If my goldens required that much intervention from me I would never have had any puppies. Nature does a much better job than I ever could.
