  • My boyfriend plays both, and my understanding is that guitar is a lot harder. If you have an ear for music though, and enjoy it, I'm sure you'll excel :)
  • It'll be easy to learn the basics... you just have to get used to the chromatic lines layered and staggered. That's been the hardest part for me cuz I was so used to the linear keyboard.
  • Its good that you can read music but the two instruments are very different. Piano is harder to play well, but the guitar uses different fingering and chords than you are sued to thinking in. But if you just want to strum a little and pick out a few songs, it shouldn't be too hard.
  • I don't know. THey're very different. I play the violin and the guitar. I learned the violin first, so I know how to read music, but I never use that skill playing guitar and just read tablature. It's easier even though it doesn't indicate how long the notes are. I think guitar is a hard instrument just because theres SO much you can do with it. so many notes, so many ways to play each note on the neck, so many tones you can use, and playing an electric open even more possibilities. But if you start it and stick with it, it will probably turn out just fine. It's really fun, even from the sketchy beginnings.
  • The theory you learned on the piano should serve you well, but the instruments don't play the same at all. If you can get past the sore finger tips you should be fine.
