No very. It carries the same risks all surgery carries but that's about it. It is painful, though.

I am 29 years old and in this past year I have suffered with Strep throat twice and have been dealing with Tonsillitis all my life. Just a few days ago, I finally broke down and got my tonsils removed. Was it the right choice? I am not sure, I can't really say, other than the fact that it does hurt, on a scale of 8 out of a 10. There is definately the risk of bleeding, which I have encountered from being sick to my stomach from the Anesthesia. The bleeding thankfully only lasted like 10 minutes and I didn't have to go to the ER. All in all, my tonsils were always abnormally enlarged and when the doctor came to visit me after the surgery, he said that there was a lot of yucky stuff in there. He said without the surgery, I would most likely continue to have problems. On the lighter side, I do get 2 weeks off from work to recover and eat popsicles and ice cream.

Against their will it is very dangerous, other than that, it is as risky as any other op :o)

I suppose this all depends. How good are you at removing tonsils? If you're reasonably good, it shouldn't be too dangerous.
