  • Sometimes it does. If your muscles were damaged before the massage, the massage won't instantly heal them. That takes time. If your massage therapist was especially roughand/or inexperienced or if your muscles were fairly damaged beforehand, your muscles might have been further damaged. Of course, if your muscles are sore, they are likely to tense up - which is why you feel sore. Put some ice packs on your back (10-15 minutes at a time). That'll help any inflammation. If your back doesn't feel better in a day or so, schedule an appointment with a doctor.
  • Why does your back feel stiff and sore? As a massage therapist I am always amazed that people will do fitness things that make them sore than come to me to try to help them. I would like to just send them home to reconsider what they are doing.
