G'day Singwell, Thank you for your question. Yes it is amazing. It has existed since at least 1831 and possibly as early as 1635 when Giovanni Cassini identified such a feature. In fact, it might even be a permanent feature of the planet. A Berkeley scientist has predicted that many of the planets vortexes might disappear as a result of climate change but not the red spot.
