It sure can. When you eliminate carbs altogether you're getting rid of your only source of energy. Eventually you get used to it, but at first it does take a toll on you.

The first week or so on Atkins you can feel tired and weak, because you are withdrawing from sugar and carbohydrates. After you acheive ketosis/lipolysis your energy will start to skyrocket because you are burning your body fat for energy (which in most people with weight to lose is a plentiful source!) and your blood sugar stays on an even keel so you don't have those annoying "crashes" after a carb-high. I've been doing Atkins for three weeks, and I have more energy than I have felt in a long time. I no longer feel like I need a nap every afternoon, or feel like I want to sleep in in the morning. I've even started exercising again, because I just don't konw what to do with all this energy!

Don't even do the Atkins diet. It is not a way to live your life so you will probably just gain the weight back when you stop. Also it has got to be bad for you to eat that much protein. Look at the food pyramid. You are taking out of your diet what you need the most of and replacing it with one of the top sections of the pyramid.

It will affect your mood, will probably make you lethargic. The Atkins Diet worked great for a female friend of mine. At one moment she had the body of a Supermodel. She went to the Company's Christmas Party dressed to kill, absolutely gorgeous. For the next Christmas Party she went wearing a loose blouse and black pants. She was embarrassed and felt bad because she was fat. She had gained close to thirty five pounds! She got tired of the diet, and her weight skyrocketed very fast. That diet is a mistake because no one on this world will go through his or her life without eating carbs.
