  • Sure.... If we eliminate all the government subsidies that have made it semi-viable to date. Somehow, I think if power companies had to buy liability insurance for their nuclear plants and pay for the near-perpetual oversight of the nuclear waste, I doubt that electric power generated by nuclear means would be competitive with even the most expensive renewable energy sources. . . .
  • We might have to in the future. We should use the less lethal forms of energy we currently have and try to find good, hopefully renewable energy sources. I say go nuclear as a last resource.
  • It just might have to be a Big consideration down the road
  • Absolutely not.
  • Yep, fossil fuel won't last forever
  • Yes. It will be a decent stop-gap to help us off fossil fuels. It does present some problems with disposal of waste, but it can be managed...
  • Nuclear should be a last resort. There are many other efficient sources of energy that we need to explore before we start producing more nuclear waste that we have no way to get rid of. In the past we (all of the nations) have just dumped our nuclear waste in the ocean and pretended that got rid of it. Sometimes while dumping the waste, the containers wouldn't sink so holes were shot in them. That's horrible management of nuclear waste and the oceans. Currently there isn't a good way to get rid of nuclear waste and all we can do it hide it away somewhere. Until we find a clean way to get rid of the waste, nuclear is a bad idea. Not to mention the possibilities of nuclear terrorism.
  • Does it need to ,as it exploited all of its renewable energy. I would have thought with all of your big rivers and mountains, more hydropower would be a better bet. Here in the UK we dont have that option.
  • Why not solar or wind farms
  • Here's what I fear. The world population is increasing at an alarming rate. If we continue to exploit oil and nuclear energy, what are we going to do when the oil runs out and we have no where left to dump the nuclear waste? We cannot go for a "quick fix" and worry about the green solutions later. It MUST be now. We must invest in and INSIST on wind and solar power. We must invest in and INSIST on more efficient, environmentally friendly options. My opinion.
  • I think geothermal might be the best option. however, if we can find a safe, acceptable and cost-effective way to dispose fo nuclear waste I think it would be a great option.
  • OF COURSE even France realized that There are a vast multitude of reasons for this but, considering that i don't presently have the time to go over them (for this is not a formal and/or graded essay) i cannot entirely explain the benefits.
  • No! So millions of lives could be lost? Of course not!
  • That remains to be seen. Hopefully we've learned now that we can't rely on foreign oil to meet our needs. With the big three almost in financial ruins and OBama in office........Hopefully corruption will be squashed and we can use other means for energy to heat our homes and drive our cars.........
  • Absolutely. See link: http://tinyurl.com/p88wrp
