  • lactic acid is what causes sorness.. proper hydration helps prevent and continuing to work out muscle group to make sorness go away..
  • After exericising using anaerobic respiration, carbon dioxide and painful lactic acid is produced. This is later made into water and carbon dioxide. There is no way to prevent this, other than building up your lung capicity to prevent using anaerobic respiration (making energy without oxygen).
  • Takes some L-glutamine. By the way I'd put money on the fact that this question has been asked before. Please search before asking questions. ^_^
  • They used to think it was lactic acid but they have found that the lactic acid washes out of the body in 30-60 minutes. What they have found is "microtrauma" to the muscle fibers — localized damage to the muscle fiber membranes and contractile elements. Over the 24 hours, the damaged muscle becomes swollen and sore. Chemical irritants are released from the damaged muscles and can irritate pain receptors. In addition to the injured fibers, there is increased blood flow from increased activity to the muscle, causing a swelling of the muscle tissues, which causes enough pressure to stimulate pain receptors. Instead of having free-moving muscle fibers the next morning, you have fibers that are fatigued, have microscopic tears and are swollen. So, it's muscle damage and the nerves read it as pain.
