  • Stroke is a major, heart disease eye problems kidney problems tons of stuff. I suffer from hypertension since my teens and am just now taking it seriously and trying to get it under control. Don't wait if you have been diagnosed discuss a treatment plan with your doctor.
  • There are many body systems that can be damaged with high blood pressure: 1.) Cardiovascular: It increases your risk of heart attack and stroke, and can cause heart failure if it goes on long enough 2.) Kidneys: High blood pressure is the second leading cause of end stage renal disease requiring dialysis (diabetes is the first). 3.) Visual: High blood pressure can affect the small blood vessels in your eyes, increasing the chances of going blind 4.) Lungs: If the elevated blood pressure is in the pulmonary arteries and veins, you'll have to work harder to breathe. This, in turn, can lead to heart or lung failure. Hypertension is called the "silent killer," because many of these things won't happen until someone's had high blood pressure for years.
