  • If you are severely dehydrated, cold water is best because the body absorbs it the fastest. If someone you know is stricken with heat stroke, cold water is best, in small sips. However, room temperature water is best for drinking normally because cold water shocks your system. There is no significant effect either way from hot water that I am aware of.
  • I find that very cold water or ice-cream at time will induce a headache. It could affect absorption (waiting before I drink) but I don,t think enough to worry about.
  • This really is a matter of contention in the sporting community. The problem is that there is very little research so most of it is opinion or purely anecdotal. The one thing that is definite is that the body process hot and cold liquids differently. Warm or hot water will pass through your system faster while cool or cold water doesn't. So if you're looking to hydrate yourself then cool water is best. If you're trying to clean out your system then warmer water is good.
