The only thing that should change child support is if there is a change in income or a change in custody. This could affect custody and visitation, depending on why the mother got primary custody in the first place. For example, if the father only got custody 25% of the time because his work schedule wouldn't allow him to care for the child during certain hours of the day, then having a stay at home step mom could remedy that. Ultimately, the court looks at what is in the best interest of the child. If the parents don't live close, it is unlikely that the court will change custody. This is because 50/50 joint custody would be impossible if the parents live in different school districts.
