  • Television shows generally make money by selling commercial time during their air time. Higher rated shows sell their time for more money because there's more of an audience for marketers to reach. Example: Friends has a high rating, therefore, the producers sell 30 seconds to McDonalds for 100,000. Of course, that's just an example. They can also make money by having product placement. For instance, let's say one night on Jeopardy, Alex Trebek takes a big drink of Pepsi. That's placement. The viewers at home see a product, but while they're watching a show.
