  • Yes ' Land of Hope and Glory ' is used as a sort of Anthem but not the National Anthem
  • We have a bit of a problem with that in the United Kingdom because the constituent countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)all have the same National Anthem, so we have to have different ones when we play against each other at sports. There's no problem for Scotland - Flower of Scotland, or for Wales - Land of My Father's. Northern Ireland has a bigger problem and I can't remember what they sing. The biggest problem is for the poor bloody English, because we are so indoctrinated about being "British" that we haven't got a clue about national identity.
  • My state has three state songs. One is the offical state song, "Give Me Louisiana". It was written by Doralice Fontane and composed by Dr. John Croom. Then there is "You Are My Sunshine", also an official state song, words and music by Governor Jimmie H. Davis and Charles Mitchell. The last one is "Every Man a King" the song was co-written in 1935 by Huey Long and Castro Carrazo, band director of Louisiana State University. Other than that I can't think of any other song that is an anthem except maybe "Louisiana 1927" by Randy Newman and also recorded by The Neville Brothers. It's about the flood on 1927 that nearly did wash away the entire southern half of the state.
  • Hurtin' Albertan by The Corb Lund Band Has been accept by some of the people as a unofficial "adopted national anthem". I think it is most popular with the rig workers. With the sky rocketing economy lately we have a lot of them around here.
  • I'm from Ohio, the state song is "Hang On Sloopy"
  • well depends.... most Canadains will recognize the Hockey night in Canada theme song as an anthem for our country. most people from Saskatchewan can sing the rider pride song from memory (also meaning that and CFL stadium you walk into during a Rider game you will find at least one person who knows the song) i dont know that they would be considered an anthem but they are definately widely recognized
  • Washington State's anthem is "Washington My Home." Years ago when they were choosing a mew one it was almost "Louie Louie." That was probably about the same time Ohio chose "Hang on Sloopy."
  • I hate the lyrics of the french Marseillaise. And I am not alone. But no alternative made it until now. They are still trying. Source (in french): http://www.unisavecbove.org/spip.php?article1877 So I would keep it. However, I would take the version of the Beatles. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_You_Need_Is_Love
  • We do, and quite frankly I'm concerned about it! I'm from Oz and our official anthem is Advance Australia Fair - boring as bat poo but there you go. Our 'unofficial' anthem though, is Waltzing Mathilda. Sounds lovely and poetic until you realise it is a song about a vagrant committing suicide over a sheep. Now WHO (besides New Zealand) would want that as their national anthem?? Seriously??
