Is there a way to instant message another computer in your home network without an internet connection?

Yes, if you have an internal network (wired or wireless) you can connect to another node on your own network. Without network ability, you could use a USB Key or floppy drive and carry a text file to the second computer, but that wouldn't be so much "instant" now would it.

You can also do a net send Go to the "Start" menu and click "Run" type cmd to bring up the command prompt then type net send [the name of the computer you are sending to] [whatever message you want to send] then hit enter. Example: net send computer1 Hi this is a test message [enter]

if you are using windows XP service pack 2 or 3, you cannot use this. it was disabled through service pack 2
