  • not really, you just have to be really careful about how you present your corrections and suggestions.
  • Not when we're doing the editing together - Songs
  • Its hard to imagine a situation where you should'nt feel at least some concern about hurting feelings whenever dealing with a friend. Isn't that part of what being a friend is about ? Reluctance to hurt ?
  • I think a good editor is tactful and positive when making the suggestions. I don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings because it is not about bashing and belittling a person's work. Editing is revision to improve, and most writers understand that writing is a process. Most writers who have made submissions have dealt with rejection and WANT to make improvements. Writers typically want to learn a new angle and also have fairly thick skin. It's similar to teachers. Good teachers make positive suggestions and they aren't implying the work is terrible. Its the same thing.
  • Not if they ask me to do it.
  • Not usually. If I've been asked to review or edit someone's work, most likely they CARE about their writing from a (WANT, HOPE, PRAY) to be PUBLISHED point of working. They want what I want..to sell the book, article, story. I don't have to be mean to someone to point out what I would consider changing.
  • They'll get over it when they learn from it.
  • No, you can just call it helping, hey they asked for it. If they don't like what you have to say then they should not have asked you for your help.
  • I don't worry at all. Instead editting is an inprovement to their work, and they can learn from those mistakes to do better next time. However, if the person gets hurt, than I guess that person doesn't appreciate help.
