Good grammar shows respect. I always consider it.

I don't always consider spelling, grammar etc, but I do appreciate better writing skills - it helps me to comprehend the answer that was given. I would not mark someone down for bad spelling, but I will certainly usually ignore answers written in mobile text message form.

Correct spellings indicates that the person is not answering in a hurry burry and he'll post a good answer.I like your question because it has no mistakes. Absense of "commas" sometimes make the meaning of the sentence differ.

Some answers don't need to be well written, for example, "What's the firing order on such and such a car?" - Answer "4-1-3-2" and it doesn't need any further clarification. However, by definition, if anything is to be considered "well-written" it must contain good spelling, grammar and punctuation, whether it answers the question or not. I see a difference between an accurate or informative answer and one that is well-written. Spelling, grammar and punctuation, along with abbreviations only affect my opinion if something is so badly written as to be difficult or impossible to understand.

If the answer has merit it is good. When the spelling and grammar are really bad, the answer loses something in the translation... takes a long time to decipher. I know some people on here do not use English as a 1st language, so I keep that in mind. Using txt messeaging is just awful... and all caps... won't even take the time to read it... gives me a headache!

I think a "well written" answer gets the writers point across in a fluid fashion that is easy to understand. Personally, I think I am influenced 80% by the quality of the actual answer and 20% for grammar, spelling and punctuation.

SPaG does matter to an extent, but only to an extent. I judge an answer by its content.

My criteria for a well written answer: 1.It must be readable. If the grammar is so poor that I have a hard time understanding it then it's not a well written answer. 2.It must address the all the points in the question. Some answers completely side step the question all together. In some cases that's fine; but, if I or the person asking really needs the answer to the question asked then it's not very helpful. 3.I prefer for the answer to be spelled correctly. It's so easy to use spell check; I wish more people would. All that being said, none of these things influence my opinion all that much.

in my opinion spelling doesnt bother me, as long as you can understand what is being written why does it matter.
