Thanks for the link, very interesting. I agree with what's said here: "According to the MSNBC report, these fights are not random, isolated incidents. The report blamed the Internet and mass media for sending increasingly misogynist and violent messages to young girls, making it hard for them to work out their differences in appropriate ways." And here: "The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence concluded the roots of female teen violence are found in the early learning experiences in the family, including weak family bonding and ineffective monitoring and supervision. Otteson believes girls are unaffected by what few consequences are meted out for violent behavior." I think that sums it much better than any answer I can give you.

self esteem realted the modern world presents girls with one way to be popular and one way to be pretty people get so upset with that and themselves(that they cant get there) and frustration is usually an indirect link to violence girls need to be taught more independence(not that its their fault at all)

The new generation teen girls are more prone towards their peer group rather than with family or family social circle that plays an active role in their development. Just recently, CNN reported a heart-breaking news about a Berkeley teen who was convicted in the murder of his father. The judge handling the case found the 16-year-old teen guilty of first-degree murder with an enhancement for using a gun in the death of his 40-year-old father.Teen violence is increasingly becoming one of the most serious problems of modern society. It is a curse not only for the victim but for his/her family and the entire society as well. It is also responsible for thousands of deaths every year around the world. This kind of violence alienates the victim from his/her family, friends and loved ones. Teenagers who engage in violence, generally try to keep themselves away from everyone. Psychologists explain that they do so for the sake of getting away from social embarrassment. Teen abuse lawyers advocate that the victim must get proper legal support at such delicate phase of her/his life. Oftentimes teenagers find their peer groups to be more significant to them than their parents. This is why friends are such a key developmental and influential factor in the teenage years. Many teens who get involved in gangs are simply trying to live out their new group’s expectations rather than their parents'. http://parentingteens.com/blog/teen-guilty-in-the-murder-of-own-father/

Since the "women movement" of the late 60's. women have become more enabled, and have began to assume roles that men always had. when trying to take on the personification of a male role, younger women tend to include violence as part of this gender sharing evolution. i have noticed a marked increase in the number of openly gay young women in my area, they dress like young men, and act the roles in many cases also. I think it is a result of social evolution, women are just beginning to act more like males, and society seems to be ok with it.

Lack of guidance at home. Single parent family at home. Use of illegal drugs at home and school. As you can plainly see, the big increase in teenage violence stems from the lack of two parent guidance at their home. Problems at home always find their way into the school.

Schools nowadays and even parents are not allowed to punish the kids the way they used to. "Kids have rights" ? They are kids, no abuse but strict discipline would help. I actually would not mind if my child got disciplined at school by the teacher for disrespecting them.

Lack of parental guidance. And specifically, lack of or minimized father influence. Males, although prone to aggression, are also effective at suppressing aggression in children.

:) agressiveness...due to womens lib and their agressive moms allowing and even encouraging their agressive, forward, behaviors...even Dr. Laura comments on the 'viciousness' of 10,11, 12, & 13 yr. old girls today.... but i have heard there is a culture of girl gangs that black and white girls fear....even from school officials that are friends of mine....but I won't go further...

Because society doesn't really socialize females against violence the way it used to. . On the other hand it DOES socialize males against violence. . I don't know that we are better off, but I don't know that we are worse off either.

FALSE. Every reputable study indicates that juvenile crime by both males and females has been on a 2 decade long downward trend. http://eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/custom/portlets/recordDetails/detailmini.jsp?_nfpb=true&_&ERICExtSearch_SearchValue_0=ED416287&ERICExtSearch_SearchType_0=no&accno=ED416287 "Citing FBI and other data sources, the Report demonstrates that the rate of juvenile violent crime arrests has consistently decreased since 1994" http://ojjdp.ncjrs.org/ojstatbb/nr2006/ "Crime remains at or near a 30-year low" http://www.jdaihelpdesk.org/Docs/Documents/Juvenile%20Crime%20Trends%20Butts%20and%20Snyder.pdf
