G'day Freddi, Thank you for your question. The groundbreaking aspects of democracy was that citizens were involved in running the affairs of a state or city rather than a king or a small group of aristocrats. The earliest democracies were found in ancient Greece and the republics of ancient India. Of course, not all adults were citizens as women and slaves were excluded.
