  • It's impossible to say. Prices for lumber, other construction materials, and concrete vary from region to region. Also included would be the purchase price of the property you will be building on. I would suggest finding a floor plan first. A two story structure will cost less that a one story structure. After you have decided on a floor plan, contact a building contractor in your area. They will be able to give you a quote. If you would prefer to bypass a general contractor, you will need to contact all suppliers and subcontractors on your own. Keep in mind you will want to collect those bids is a short period of time. Prices can fluctuate wildly within even a month. Sometimes they change weekly.
  • Retroglide has some good points. Also consider building the place yourself - my parents actually met while building a church together, and I think this is a great way to build up a church - do it literally!
  • Alot of churchs here in NC use steel buildings. They cost less and can be built quickly and you can finish them anyway you like inside. Shop around, there are at least 10 national companies and they all compete. you will need a contractor to poor the slab, erect the building and finish the interior (and tie in to water, sewer and electric). I had a quote on a 1000 sq foot with a 3/12 pitch roof for around $12k. That was the building itself only, no installation or finishing.
