Charles Schulz.
I like garfield alright - but it was never really all that great, in my opinion.
I may have a slight bias, however, because I grew up in the town that Schulz lived (and died) in. I skated on his ice rink. Our local airport is named for him. The library at the local college is name for him and his wife. We even have the Charles M. Schulz museum.
I like to think my sense of humour is fairly sophisticated but I simply don't 'get' Peanuts and never found much in those strips to make me raise a smile. Garfield is more appealing; a lazy, cynical, layabout cat as the hero is something I can relate to :)
Jim Davis.
I'm going to get a lot of flack from "Peanuts" fans but I never got too much into them, I hated the image of Charlie Brown as a lovable loser, Snoopy I liked better (They're still a classic of American culture, btw)
Plus, I can draw a near-perfect Garfield :)
Jim Davis is still alive and producing so he gets points.
Schulz and good 'ol Charlie Brown is one of my all time favorites.
I identify with Charlie Brown in almost every way but our hair styles.
You can't beat the Snoop Dog that started it all.
This is a timeless strip that will last for generations.
Garfield can get boring and predictable yet it has its moments too.
Verdict: Charles Schulz
