In my case, the fur always flew in the first few days after the introduction. After a while, the cats get used to the smell and sight of the new cat and they back off. My one cat who is no longer with me, hated a black and white male cat. When he died and I got another black and white male, she hated him too. There is always going to be a certain amount of hunting, stalking and just general rough play. I will still find clumps of fur on the carpet and scabs on the cats. P.S. To the questioner Nellie. My newest cat we got in December of 2005 is named Nellie and we spell it the same way you do. She is trouble and I remembered the character of Nellie Olson on that "Little House on the Prairie" show.

I introduced kittens to cats and they adopted them into the family just fine! It was just one more in the bunch!

In my case the new cat was never accepted by the old cat.

Most of the time the older cat would hiss and complain and maybe even swat a few times; but usually, the younger cat will pester the older one until it grudgingly accepts the younger one's presence. Most of the time the two became friends in about a week. Here are the two cats we have now. The little one is a stray that forced her way into our cat's life. They are best friends now.

im doing the same thing now...they seemed aggressive at eachother first, but it looks like theyre more scared. the old cat is skittish and hides under the bed all the time and the younger one (7 months) doesnt seem to care anymore. i was waiting for them to have their fight to settle whos the queen of the house... but it doesn't look like itll happen. they do their own things and mind eachothers business.

yes but it takes awhile for them to bond best way of doing this is to bring new cat in cage .. and let old cat smell new cats belongings so they can become intergrated slowly , and spparate them in 2 rooms and left them know each other sent first that way you will not have a fight on your hands ...

I'm doing this at the moment. The kitten lives in our bathroom and our 5 month cat does not seem to appreciate it one bit, i've tried introducing them ( holding the kitten and having the big one come to us) but the big one just hisses and grows and swats and anytime it looks like i'm going to put the kitten down she gets ready to pounce. its quite scary! so i've set up out kitten with toys and small make-shift litterbox in the bathroom and our big cat sits outside listening to it play with the toys and watching it under door, i'm hoping they will get used to smells and want to play with eachother. any other suggestions would be great!

We adopted a kitten from the Humane Society November of 2006. We already had a 6 year old cat. The old cat didn't like the new cat. We kept them apart for a while. The younger cat is full grown now, he chases the older cat all over the house. They get along, they just play rough.
