Most of the poetry of France is written in french, so many people in the world can read it in the original language. We use to talk about french poetry, and include many authors who are from Canada, Belgium, Switzerland or Africa. The same happens with german poetry, as german is spoken in many countries. But many of the people who speak english, apart from native speakers, will not always understand the true meaning of some english poems. Rarer Languages such as Romanian have very interesting poems, but it is better you have a similar language it you want to read it. And the old form of a language is very different from what people speak today. Who speaks today like Shakespeare did? Good translators of poetry have to be poets themselves.
