  • STEELERS STEAL ONE It turns out that quarterbacks can play defense too. With a little over a minute left in an AFC playoff game, Indianapolis Colts defensive back Nick Harper, his team down three points, picked up a fumble by the Pittsburgh Steelers near the Colts' 1-yd. line and ran for what should have been a touchdown. But Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hustled to trip Harper, saving the game for the Steelers, who went on to win the Super Bowl. • I thought it was great when Jonny Wilkinson kicked that drop goal 30 seconds from the end to win The Rugby World Cup in Australia 2003, playing Australia.
  • Kirk Gibson's home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. Gibson basically couldn't get around on Dennis Eckersley's fastball, yet Eck fell into his habit of throwing a slider on a 3-2 count. The Dodgers had scouted that tendency, so Gibson knew the pitch was coming. I remember thinking the moment he threw it, "WTF? He threw a breaking ball..." The rest is history that Hollywood would reject as too unrealistic. . . .
  • To a Canadian, without question ---- Paul Henderson's goal in 1972 to win the hockey series against the Soviet Union. It was funny because I was in primary school and the principal (male) called all of the boys in the school in the school gym to watch the game on TV while the girls stayed in the classroom and did school work. Boy have times changed!! :)
  • I will have to go with the Immaculate Reception , which is the nickname given to one of the most controversial plays in the history of American football. It occurred in the AFC divisional playoff game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on December 23, 1972. NFL Films has chosen it as the greatest play of all time.. The play was a turning point for the Steelers, who reversed four decades of futility and won four Super Bowls in the next seven seasons. It launched the once down and out Steelers into an era where they dominated the NFL with a cast of blue collar players. Yes I was at home watching the game with my father and older brother. It was great.
