  • I think because some are really fast. I am scared of the fast ones. They are creepy and crawly and you never know what they are going to do next.
  • It could be their bite. Ever been bitten by a brown recluse spider? Happened here. had surgery to cut it out of my back. You just seem to remember an incident like that....... FOR LIFE!
  • Because they are ugly and they can jump at you.
  • I think it's the general creepy-crawlyness of spiders.
  • All those legs--gives me the shivers.
  • I used to love spiders until a giant one fell off the cieling and landed on my face when I was around five years old. I screamed bloody murder. Kind of stuck in my mind. Maybe it's because people usually hear horror stories about spiders or have had something happened to them.
  • I don't like the way they move they're too unpredictable and scatty, I think that's what I dislike about moths and daddy long legs too, you just never know what they're going to do next, it freaks me out.
  • Im talking to myself but anyway: Maybe its a natural reaction to something that looks unnatural - 8 legs look so scary and sinister, the way they move so fast and could walk on you at any time. For me its the phobia of it crawling onto my skin I was in the bath at my grandparents and this big massive spider crawled across the floor, nearly giving me a heart attack, and i couldnt just run out the room!
  • Public speaking is the most common phobia at least it has been for the past 25-30 years. I think arachnophobia is common because spiders can bite and they also look creepy and we were afraid of them as children.
