when you lose brain cells, that's it they're gone forever... but, the remaining cells will develop new connections much like this example: think of the lost brain cell as a road that was destroyed by a huge earthquake, you cannot rebuild over the road because there is a fault line that apparently runs thriugh there, so the engineers build a road that delivers you to the same destination but goes around the area that was destroyed. the road or cell will not return, but the remnants of the road are used by adding roads that diverge off and reconnect later down the road. no new cells are made but the branches (synaps) grow out to replace the gap. hope this helps
