  • As of the census of 2000, there were 8,170 people, 3,635 households, and 2,079 families residing in the village. The population density was 767.5/km sq (1,986.2/mi sq). There were 3,761 housing units at an average density of 353.3/km sq (914.3/mi sq). The racial makeup of the village was 96.19% White, 0.58% Black or Race (United States Census)African American, 0.22% Native American, 1.80% Asian, 0.35% from Race (United States Census)other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 3,635 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% were Marriagemarried couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.8% were non-families. 35.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.89. In the village the population was spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 37.3% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
