The racial makeup of the city was 59.92% White, 26.58% African American, 0.26% Native American, 1.38% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 10.31% from Race (United States Census)other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17.59% of the population. There were 12,247 households out of which 32.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were Marriagemarried couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 27.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.17. In the city the population was spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.5 males.
