After upgrading to windows XP Professional from XP Home, what upgrades, such as drivers or software updates, should I make?

The differences between the Windows XP Home and Professional editions are primarily in what functionalities are available to the user. The actually Operating System (OS) is essentially the same. Additionally, Windows XP comes with a full set of recent drivers, and automatically selects the best one from its library for any peripherals or programs you ahve installed. So unless you're having a problem of some sort you shouldn't need to update anything because of the OS upgrade.
