  • I'm not sure if excitement will set off a ferrets scent glands, but I will tell you that they DO have them. I can also tell you that those glands can be removed by a vet so you won't have to worry about it.
  • OH yeah. Ferrets are mustilids, a "cousin" to the skunk. This group of animals are famous for their well developed anal glands. Many pet ferrets have had their glands removed; ask the person / store you got yours from if this has been done to your pet. If not you might want to think about it! Also, neutering is a good idea, essential if your pet is female. If she doesn't breed she will die! And unless you have a separate building or you really like that odor (breeding ferrets make alot of it) you don't want to breed these guys, cute as they are. Removing the glands won't make them totally scent free (they have lesser scent glands other areas), but regular bathing will make them very socially acceptable in most informal situations.
  • no...my ferret Nina never lets off a "smell" or "gas" however she will always have a sort of scent because she IS a wild animal. I think it is very cruel to take away natural things off a ferret...example the vet taking away scent glands.
  • Yes and so do dogs......whew!
  • I have never heard or smelled anything from my ferrets when they get excited-which is very frequently! I would suggest that you either call a vet (THAT SPECIALIZES IN FERRETS!), or research this question online.
  • If you bought your farret at a pet shop it should have been descented...My farrets do pass gas like we do and it stinks really bad..Maybe you have a gas bag farret like one of mines...If so it is an odor remover that you can put in the water bottle and even the poot will not stink anymore....
