    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The degrees of loudness and softness in a piece of music are known collectively as dynamics. The major dynamic markings are "piano" for quietly and "forte" for loudly. Italian prefixes such as mezzo and suffixes such as issimo and ississimo added to these markings further define the loudness of a piece.
