Speaking as a senior, I'd appreciate it if the person assumed I know NOTHING about the technology, because I don't. I'm considering getting one, but when I see the technology that's available, it all seems very confusing to me. I was born in the era where I could pick up the phone and tell the operator which number I wanted to call, and it was usually 4 digits! So I feel completely out of the loop now.

I would say visibility (large letters and numbers), the ability to see the characters, and easy ability to understand how to make and receive calls.

Buy one with features THEY will actually use ... a basic phone is probably best.

Large numerals, no gimmicks. Take a look at the Jitterbug.

I'm by no means a senior person, but large easy to read numbers work well. Also, large buttons as sometimes my fingers are too fat to dial this number.

Must be signal, and network type!! That is of course if you need the phone as an emergency tool. It's no good having a phone that can't phone. I made the mistake of not looking into the different network types when I got my SVC tracfone. That phone was a GSM model, and where I'm staying it's almost only verizon. Forunately I picked up on this early on, and didn't have to find out in an emergency.
