If you made it at home you could use Splenda instead of sugar Charlie. We use Splenda all the time and it is cup for cup used just like sugar. There are some things it won't do as well as sugar but it would be superduper in a pie. We try to follow a sugar-free diet though we are not diabetic just because sugar isn't healthy for anyone. Splenda is the best substitute we've found. Thank you for your answer! :)

All I did was use Splenda when I made the apple filling instead of sugar my friend. How much depends upon how sweet you like things. You know you slice the apples and then add some amount of sweetening to taste. Also I add cinnamon and a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice. The filling is the only place you need the sweet. If you want to make a Dutch Apple pie you can just use some softened butter, cinnamon, flour and Splenda (again depending on how sweet you want it) and then combine these things with a pastry blender much as you would make a crust using a pastry blender and incorporating the fat with the flour. At some point the crumby top will be ready to put on the pie. So you make a regular bottom pie crust, add the sliced apples that you've coated with the cinnamon/Splenda/lemon juice, top it with the crumbs and bake in the oven till the apples are cooked. If you slice the apples into very thin slices the pie will not take as long to bake. Any apple pie recipe will do. Just adjust it as I've described above. Then you can eat your pie guilt-free. On the Splenda package there used to be a lemon pie recipe that was wonderful. I also made a cheesecake once using Splenda and it turned it very well. The one thing you can't do with Splenda is caramelize it the way you can sugar! I just checked out my bag of Splenda and believe it or not there is an "Old Fashioned Apple Pie" recipe on the back! You're welcome honey. Have you ever used those store-bought pie crusts that you get in the freezer section Charlie? I never have but it would make the pie-making go more quickly. If you choose to do that just make sure there is no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil among the ingredients. That stuff is hugely bad for your heart. I always read ingredient labels on everything and we never ever buy anything with hydrogenated oils in them. Happy baking! I can almost taste your pie now! :) ((hugs))
