  • While the official announcement is "We'll make an announcement about that later", the general thinking is that... no, it will not. While I'm rather TOed about "next-gen" consoles coming out already (with little in the way of innovation)- I personally think they should have waited a few years until the technology was ready before making the current gen obsolete. So this holiday, if 360 launches, my old xbox will become a paperweight and i'll be forced to upgrade... I'm naturally wishing the answer was yes. But in reality, if they make Xbox360 backward-compatible, it will dramatically hurt it's performance.... look at the PS2, it's far behind it's competition because it chose to be PS1-capable. Microsoft has decided to sacrifice back-compat for current-game quality, and it's a fair enough decision. But frankly, PS3 is going to be back-compat for both PS2 and PS1, and Nintendo Revolution is going to be back-compat all the way to NES... I think I'm going with PS3 this time around. Until Nintendo realises that Japan isn't the only country that buys video games, pretty much their only market in America will be loyalists (from NES) and children.( As for the loyalists, take a look at http://www.consoleclassix.com before deciding if the Revolution is worth buying.) And for the Xbox fans, I'm sure you'll enjoy the 360, especially if you like playing Live, but 90% odds it will not be backwards-compatible. :( PS3 made a fan outa me
  • Yes the Xbox 360 can play regular XBOX games so dont worry. You can check for more info on the xbox website. http://www.xbox.com
  • The Xbox 360 is highly believed to be backward compatible but ONLY with the original Xbox's top-selling games. Games like Halo 1 and 2, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive and a handful of others are believed to be on the list for backward compatible treatment. IGN.com journalists believe that Microsoft will take the backward compatiblity issue one step at a time, considering the XB360 is an entirely different system from the original. Using the XB360 hard drive, there will be updates of some sort sent via Xbox Live that will enable gamers to play SOME of their favorite older titles (granted they have the games in their possession). Over time, the list may grow based on gamer feedback and, someday, the XB360 may very well include in its playable titles every game from Xbox 1's library. We'll know for sure how Microsoft handles backward compatibility this fall when the system is (hopefully) launched.
  • In order to make an old xbox game work on the 360, they have to make an emulator program for EVERY single game. This means that not all games will work. They are constantly updating the system though. Just recently, an update allowed Star Wars Battlefront 2 to work on it. All you need to do is pop an old xbox game in the 360, if you are on xbox live, the system will check to see if your game has an emulator. If it does, it will automatically update the system so you can play it! It's very easy and painless. Now, if you don't have xbox live (which, really, you should,) you can call microsoft for an update CD to install all the updates to your system.
  • Yes. If you get the Premium Package Xbox 360, it comes with a Hard drive that you can attach to your Xbox 360. This Hard Drive lets you play about 80-95% of the old Xbox games, especially Halo 1 and 2 .
