My 1993 Mazda Protege' LX started to run hot, and when I pushed the gas the car didn't move. Then after I let the engine cool it wouldn't start. What could be wrong?

There are lots of possibilities for this but the first that comes to mind is this. If the engine had no oil in it, you would see the engine run hot then quit completely as the pistons ceased against the cylinder wall.

it could be a blown head, or block, no oil, also as I learned from my volvo if the tranmission fluid runs out it can cause the car to run hot, and not go.
