    Leather is a thick material, so a sewing awl with a leather needle is the best tool for sewing pieces of leather together. A sewing awl allows you to punch a hole in the leather while guiding the thread through the hole so that you can do a lock stitch. You can also use a leather punch to make the holes and do a whip stitch or running stitch to sew the pieces together using the holes.
